Catastrophic Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan

The Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) recently reported that Sudan is facing one of the country's worst humanitarian crises in its history due to the ongoing civil war. Since April 2023, 12 million people have been displaced, with over 4 million fleeing to neighboring countries. Two out of every three Sudanese now need help, and millions are at risk of hunger and famine.

The country is also in the grip of a deadly cholera outbreak, and women and girls continue to face widespread sexual violence. In Darfur and El Fasher, civilian massacres and extrajudicial killings are a current issue. The IASC has called on the international community for urgent intervention, protection of civilians, and unhindered humanitarian access.

Our Response

In response to the grave humanitarian crisis in Sudan, Hayrat Aid is providing nutritious food parcels and hot meals to people in affected regions.

What Has Happened

Since April 2023, unrelenting conflict in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of over 15,000 civilians and the displacement of approximately 8.5 million others. Meanwhile, over 25 million people are now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. According to United Nations data, the world's worst hunger crisis is unfolding in Sudan. 

Türkiye, through the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay), is launching a comprehensive emergency relief operation for Sudan, where access to even basic necessities remains out of reach for many. In coordination with the Turkish Red Crescent, Hayrat Aid and numerous other NGOs are preparing a humanitarian aid shipment. Once preparations are complete, the relief vessel carrying vital supplies will set sail for Port Sudan.
