What is a Gerobak?
A Gerobak is a mobile food cart model used in Indonesia for preparing and selling street food. As Hayrat Aid, we have transformed this model into a sustainable livelihood project, providing fully equipped mobile kitchens to people in need so they can run their own businesses.
A Gerobak is more than just equipment support. The cart, prepared for cooking and selling food, forms the foundation of a small business where the supported individual can earn an income through their own labor.
With our Gerobak Food Cart projects carried out in Indonesia in 2025, we provided fully equipped mobile kitchens to those in need in regions where street food is a significant source of livelihood.
How does the Gerobak project provide support?
Our goal with the Gerobak project is to go beyond short-term financial aid and help individuals create their own source of livelihood.
Within the scope of the project:
• Individuals in need are identified.
• A Gerobak food cart suitable for preparing and selling food is provided.
• Necessary equipment is supplied to help the business become operational.
• The aim is for the supported person to earn an income by selling products through their own efforts.
This model is one of the income-generating project examples of our sustainable development efforts. In 2024, we reached a total of 80 people in need with our Gerobak and Tuktuk projects.
How much does a Gerobak cost?
The cost of one Gerobak is $770.
You can contribute any amount you wish to the campaign, or you can support an entire Gerobak by donating $770.
The name of the donor who funds a full Gerobak will be written on a special plaque on the food cart they supported.
